Political and social activist Dr. Paul Hamod welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria, considering the move a positive turning point on both the economic and political levels—not only for Syria, but for the entire region.

Hamod explained that lifting the sanctions would help restart Syria’s economic engine, pave the way for reconstruction, stimulate the investment climate, and revitalize trade exchanges. All of this, he emphasized, would have a positive impact on the social and living stability of the Syrian people.

He further noted that the decision also opens a window for regional economic cooperation, particularly with Lebanon, which has been directly and enduringly affected by the Syrian crisis across various sectors, from the economy to infrastructure and other vital fields.

Hamod expressed his happiness over what he described as the “gradual recovery of Syria,” expressing hope that this recovery would extend to Lebanon as well—economically, politically, and in terms of security. He affirmed that Syria’s stability is a key element in the stability of the region as a whole.

In conclusion, Hamod called on the international community to responsibly engage with this transformation through a constructive openness toward Syria and to work toward building a new phase of regional cooperation that puts an end to years of crisis and restores hope for a more stable and prosperous future for the region’s peoples.
